Beats of cochlea 2015Only one month to go before the 2nd International Music Festival for Children, Youths and Adults with Hearing Disorders ‘Beats of Cochlea’! On July 11th the second edition of the extraordinary Music Festival will begin. Wonderful, talented musicians with hearing implants will rock the audience again!

By now all of must have heard about the International Music Festival for Children, Youths and Adults with Hearing Disorders ‘Beats of Cochlea’ – the international music competition created to show the unique musical talents of people using hearing implants. The Festival was for the first time organized one year ago, on the initiative of Prof. Henryk Skarzynski, first Polish surgeon performing cochlear implantations back in 1992, today the director of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing in Warsaw, one of the leading European hearing implant centres. The idea of the Festival was born much earlier, inspired by his implanted and very talented patients.

This year, the organizers have received more than 150 applications, most of them representing a really high artistic level. The Jury under the direction of Prof. Zimak, rector of the F. Chopin University of Music, has reviewed all demonstration pieces and decided, like the last year, to apply in the first place the criterion of musical artistry. Thus 30 finalists, the best of the best, have been selected and invited for the final auditions. They will come from Austria, Canada, China, Columbia, Ecuador, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, USA and they will represent a wide spectrum of ages and musical tastes.

The Festival will take three days: 11 July will be a day for exercising and getting used to the audience room, the auditions will start on 12 July and at the end of the day the Jury will announce who will perform at the Final Concert. The Final Concert will take place in the evening on 13 July. All auditions and the Final Concert will take place in the F. Chopin Academy of Music.

Beside exercising and performing, there will be time also for sightseeing, meeting with Polish patients and listening to some very interesting lectures on 14 July, during the International Scientific Conference ‘Hearing Implants and Music’ in the World Hearing Center in Kajetany near Warsaw. The Conference program will combine workshops, invited lectures and patients’ testimonies, where everybody will have an occasion to share and compare their experiences with implant users from other countries.

The organizers of ‘Beats of Cochlea’ would like to thank the EURO-CIU for the outstanding help and cooperation in spreading the information about the Festival to all interested people. It was a great job!
